Where is Kingsway Equestrian located?

Kingsway Equestrian is located in the heart of horse country on Brock Road in Uxbridge.

From Pickering, we are 20 minutes north on Brock road (north of Hwy. 407).

From Toronto, we are approximately 50 minutes northeast of the city, commutable from Hwy 404 or Hwy 401.

From Markham, Richmond Hill, and Unionville we are 30 minutes east, and just a 15-minute jog east from Whitchurch-Stouffville.

What equipment do I need to start riding lessons?

In order to have a safe and fun riding experience all riders must have three things; a riding helmet, boots with a low heel, and long pants.

The helmet is the most important piece of safety equipment because of what it protects - your head. Every rider must have their own ASTM approved riding helmet. We do not carry helmets that can be rented or borrowed. Ski helmets, hockey helmets, etc. can’t hold to the standards of safety that riding requires. We are happy to direct you to nearby tack stores that can help you find an affordable helmet that is properly fitted.

Boots, on the other hand, do not need to be specialized riding boots (although they are comfortable!). Any boot with a low heel (no larger than 1.5cm) will do the trick to keep you safe while riding.

Long pants can come in the form of breeches, riding tights, or even leggings and jeans. We recommend riding breeches or tights for your comfort, but as long as your legs are covered with fitted pants (loose and baggy can be a hazard) you will be safe while riding.

What clothing is needed/recommended for riding in warm weather?

Despite warm temperatures, riders will need long fitted pants to protect their legs while riding as well as boots (no open toes!) in the barn. Most tops are suitable for riding, just be sure not to wear anything too loose that can get caught on equipment.

It’s recommended that riders invest in riding gloves and half chaps or tall boots to stay comfortable while riding. Long hair should be tied back and out of a rider’s eyes.

While not required, riders are encouraged to purchase an equestrian safety vest. These vests act as a body protector in the event of a fall. There are light and adjustable models in varying styles and price ranges available on the market. It’s worth checking out!

What clothing is needed/recommended for riding in cold weather?

Staying warm at the barn is an art form, but it can be done!

Dress in layers as the more you move around, the warmer you will be. While riding make sure your layers can be taken off without removing your helmet. Thick winter vests are easier to ride in than bulky winter jackets.

We recommend riders bring an extra pair of socks to change into if their feet get cold, and gloves for riding as well as for grooming. Hand and foot warmers are very helpful as well!

What happens if I need to cancel a booked riding lesson?

Every rider that enters the program will receive information on our Make-Up Lesson Policy, which allows riders to book a make-up lesson if they have cancelled their lesson with at least 48 hours notice. Riders who need to cancel a lesson or book a make-up lesson can email

Does Kingsway Equestrian offer showing opportunities?

Short answer - Yes!

Long answer - Kingsway Equestrian is an active participant in the show circuit for hunter, jumper, and dressage disciplines, from schooling shows to gold-rated events.

For lesson students who are interested in trying out showing, we will be hosting some in-house competitions in the future as well as offering off-property showing experiences.

Can I book a trail ride or a one time lesson?

We do offer one-time private or semi-private classes for an adjusted rate (as detailed on the riding lessons page), however, we do not offer trail riding or riding outside of a structured lesson.

What happens if Kingsway Equestrian cancels a lesson?

Thanks to our beautiful indoor arena and warm room, we are equipped to run lessons in heavy rain, snow, and cold weather days. If the weather is unsafe for riders - extreme winds, cold, or heat - we will cancel lessons at no charge.
